An exquisitely raw and stirring handful of tracks complete Pictures of Belgrade‘s debut EP, put out by the up-and-coming Bowl Cut Records on April 7th. Created with minimal man-handling, ep1 was recorded in converted police cell, which, strangely, doesn’t come much of a surprise given the whirl of acoustics surrounding Chris Barrett’s distinctively organic and mellifluous vocals.
An alternative solo project from Bristol’s Something Anorak, Pictures of Belgrade’s EP is more stripped back with haunting echoes and an heart-wrenching simplicity. Barrett’s falsetto melodies are swooning and sensitive, kaleidoscopic amongst the waves of coarse guitar and piano. A beautiful EP.
